PROJECT DIGNITY FOR ALL – OUTREACH # 11 (Saturday, July 13, 2019)
We want to apologize for being a week late posting our latest update! Even though it was written up I time, somehow we got so busy before out vacation, we completely forgot to actually post it! We are now back in Ottawa, so here it is.
After a good night’s sleep, we woke at 6:30 AM ready and eager to embrace the day. The weather forecast called beautiful, sunny, hot weather. It was to be a perfect day for an outreach! After breakfast, we went through and organized some clothing to bring with us. We didn’t have very many men’s items, but we did manage to find a bunch of unisex style clothing among the women’s items. We now had enough to completely fill up a whole rack. We then made the coffee, filled up the car with everything we needed to bring, and headed downtown to the Salvation Army location.
We arrived at approximately 11:00 AM and immediately set up the coffee table. As a special treat, we had cut up a large watermelon into small pieces and filled up a bunch of sandwich bags with 4-5 pieces each. When we brought out the watermelon, it was such a big hit, that there was nothing left in a very short time! As soon as we put out the clothing, many of the fellows started “shopping” and looking through the item and picking out what they wanted.
We also handed out toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other toiletry items. It did not take very long before the rack was almost completely empty. After spending about two hours chatting with the guys, we decided it was time to head back home. I noticed we both had big smiles on our faces, from enjoying another successful outreach day!
We will be taking a well-needed vacation for the next few weeks, so our Outreach # 12 is only planned for Saturday, August 10, 2019. We are again in the same position of having absolutely no men’s clothing whatsoever! This is a big shout out to everyone! If any of you have any clean, gently used, in-season men’s clothing and/or footwear that you no longer want or need, please consider donating to Project Dignity for All! There are so many individuals in need that would so appreciate anything that you would be able to give! We will be happy to come to pick up donated items at any location within the Ottawa area. We want to wish everyone a wonderful next few weeks, and also thank each and everyone one of you for any and all donations! Without all of you, we couldn’t do what we do!
